01

What is the Hong Kong Sevens and when does it take place?

The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens is the most iconic stop on the global rugby sevens circuit, mixing world-class, fast-paced rugby with a festival atmosphere that fills the city for an entire long weekend. It is typically staged in the northern spring. The 2025 edition debuted at the new Kai Tak Sports Park and welcomed huge crowds and headline entertainment.

The 51st edition of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens will take place in 2027. Dates are yet to be announced.

02

Where is the Hong Kong Sevens tournament?

The tournament is now played at Kai Tak Stadium within the new Kai Tak Sports Park in Kowloon. The precinct is designed for major events and is within walking distance of two MTR stations. Most fans arrive via the Tuen Ma Line to Kai Tak Station or Sung Wong Toi Station, then walk around 10 minutes to the stadium. If you are staying on Hong Kong Island, the MTR is generally the quickest option to reach Kowloon and connect to Kai Tak.

03

What does a typical three-day Sevens weekend look like?

Friday launches the party with gates opening early and an evening opening ceremony, while pool matches run throughout the day. Saturday is the big day for many fans, with more pool play, costume-filled stands and live music. Sunday is finals day, when knock-out matches decide the trophies and the atmosphere builds to a memorable climax before the closing show. Exact gate times, fixtures and entertainment are confirmed closer to the event, and we share final timings in your travel documents and on tour.

04

Where should I stay in Hong Kong for easy stadium and city access?

Hong Kong is compact and well-connected, so choose a base that suits your style. Tsim Sha Tsui and Hung Hom in Kowloon are convenient for Kai Tak Sports Park and offer skyline views, harbour promenades and late-night dining. Central, Admiralty and Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island suit guests who want buzzy neighbourhoods, world-class restaurants and easy MTR links across the harbour. Our packages place you in proven hotels conveniently located near transport.

05

What should I wear and pack for the Hong Kong Sevens?

Expect warm, humid spring weather with the chance of showers. Light, breathable clothing, comfortable trainers, a compact poncho, hat and refillable water bottle are sensible choices. Fancy dress is welcome and part of the fun, especially on Saturday, but make sure costumes meet stadium guidelines and are comfortable for a full day. Bring a small bag that passes security checks and keep photo ID and Octopus card or bank card handy for public transport and purchases inside the venue.

06

What is the atmosphere like and what is the South Stand?

The Hong Kong Sevens is famous for its colour and noise. Expect choreographed chants, creative costumes and an international mix of supporters who embrace the carnival spirit. The South Stand is the spiritual home of the party, with fans who sing, dance and celebrate from the first whistle to the last. If you prefer a calmer view, we can recommend sections with an easy in-and-out and a little more breathing room. Wherever you sit, the energy is infectious and uniquely Hong Kong.

01

What is included in a Keith Prowse Travel Hong Kong Sevens package?

Our Hong Kong Sevens packages are built for ease and enjoyment. Inclusions typically combine official Hong Kong Sevens tickets for all three days, hand-picked 4 or 5-star accommodation in well-located areas, return airport transfers, and the services of our experienced tour hosts. Many guests also add curated city experiences and extra nights to make the most of their trip. With more than three decades of first-hand Hong Kong Sevens knowledge, we provide the practical details and local insight that turn a good weekend into a great one.

02

Is the Hong Kong Sevens suitable for families?

While the famed South Stand attracts costumed superfans, there are plenty of seating areas that suit families and first-timers who want to enjoy the rugby and the show. Daytime sessions are particularly family-friendly, and the stadium precinct has modern facilities with clear wayfinding, accessible seating and food options for different tastes.

03

Can I add experiences like Macau, horse racing or food tours?

Absolutely. A Hong Kong Sevens weekend is the perfect time to explore more. Popular add-ons include a day at the Sha Tin races, an organised Macau excursion, Kowloon night-markets, Victoria Peak at sunset and table-secured dining in Soho or Tsim Sha Tsui. Keith Prowse Travel regularly bundles these highlights with official Hong Kong Sevens tickets and central hotels so your sightseeing, and match schedule work in harmony. Tell us what you enjoy and we will shape a personalised plan.

01

How do I buy tickets for the Hong Kong Sevens?

Ticket categories include general admission seating across multiple stands plus premium hospitality options. As an official travel provider for the event, Keith Prowse Travel will package your ticket, accommodation and more for an elevated and seamless event experience.

02

Do I need a visa to visit Hong Kong for the Sevens?

Many nationalities can visit Hong Kong visa-free for short stays, typically ranging from 7 to 180 days, depending on the passport. Entry rules can change, so always check the latest guidance and permitted length of stay before you travel. We recommend reviewing official Hong Kong Government information and ensuring your passport validity meets the requirements of your itinerary.

03

How far in advance should I book for the Hong Kong Sevens?

Hong Kong Sevens travel packages, flights and premium hotel rooms sell quickly once dates are released. Early booking secures the best locations, preferred ticket categories.
